to a UNIX box was way cheaper and to the IBM and people were so much more
productive.
IBM RJE stations were card-based, with a card reader, card punch, and
line printer. Communication with the mainframe was via half-duplex
bisync. Certainly editing programs on a UNIX terminal would be WAY
more productive than punch cards!
