Well...20 years ago it was a catchy phrase when FreeBSD was still in
stiff competition with Linux. Now 20 years later we all see who won
the Unix server wars. Literally every corporate entity is using some
form of commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux now. It is running
everywhere.
There are some individual companies that still utilizes FreeBSD like
Netflix, but the overall majority of server systems are based on
Linux. I am not saying it is better; I am just pointing out the
facts. I generally despise all modern Unix: be it Linux with systemd
or FreeBSD as being too bloated and complex. My personal opinion is
that Linux peaked around late 90s-early/mid 2000s. It was still
pretty logical and simple, but excelled in performance. It went
downhill since then...
