Yeah it's a pain and different in different languages. My horror stories are mainly
C# since that's what day job stuff is these days (backend anyway). The way assert
does it is great, one little cpp define and it all goes away. However that being compile
time, only applies to what is yours, if you're stuck with someone else's object
code, you get what you get :/
