A PITA, but I actually have the block to crimp them and some MMJ stock in my basement.  Lego Mindstorms use it also as a way to try to keep people from by options from other folks.  I never thought it was nifty mind you.

Huh; apparently the VT520 had (well, has...) a PS/2 compatible 6-pin mini-DIN connector: http://web.mit.edu/dosathena/doc/www/ek-vt520-rm.pdf

I'm most familiar with the earlier VT models that use MMJ connectors for the keyboard (and RS-232). That's kinda nifty, though.
