This directory contains gzipped tar archives holding PDP-11 a.out binaries for several versions of Unix: v1bins.tar.gz 1st Edition UNIX (c) Dennis Ritchie & Lucent last1120c.tar.gz 2nd Ed C Compiler (c) Dennis Ritchie & Lucent v5bins.tar.gz 5th Edition UNIX (c) Caldera v6bins.tar.gz 6th Edition UNIX (c) Caldera v7bins.tar.gz 7th Edition UNIX (c) Caldera 2.11bins.tar.gz 2.11 BSD (c) Steven Schultz & UCB The V5, V6 and V7 binaries are covered by a license, whose details are given in the file sco_v567license.txt. Please read this file before using the relevant binaries. The 2.11BSD binaries are covered by the usual BSD license. I have no idea what restrictions are on the V1 binaries. last1120c.tar.gz contains source code to an early C compiler. See the Readme inside this file for more details. On my system, I have untarred these archives into /usr/local/src, and have installed Apout on my $PATH (in /usr/local/bin). I can then use the following shell aliases to start the command-line shell from each of the different Unix versions: alias 1sh 'setenv APOUT_ROOT /usr/local/src/V1; apout $APOUT_ROOT/bin/sh' alias 2sh 'setenv APOUT_ROOT /usr/local/src/2.11; apout $APOUT_ROOT/bin/sh' alias 5sh 'setenv APOUT_ROOT /usr/local/src/V5; apout $APOUT_ROOT/bin/sh' alias 6sh 'setenv APOUT_ROOT /usr/local/src/V6; apout $APOUT_ROOT/bin/sh' alias 7sh 'setenv APOUT_ROOT /usr/local/src/V7; apout $APOUT_ROOT/bin/sh' Remember, when you run these aliases, you are left in your current directory. To move to the top of the emulated directory tree, simply do `chdir /' for V1, V5 or V6, or `cd /' for V7 or 2.11BSD. Manual Pages for Various UNIX Versions -------------------------------------- The tar archives for V6, V7 and 2.11BSD contain nroff -man format manual pages. V5 is close enough to V6 that you can use the V6 manual pages. Manual pages for 1st Edition UNIX can be found on-line on Dennis Ritchie's home page at: http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/cs/who/dmr/1stEdman.html. On-line manual pages for V7 and 2.11BSD can also be found at http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/man.cgi. Warren Toomey, wkt@tuhs.org, January 2000
